Collecting By Color

If you have ever gone into an antique store and checked some of the booths or displays, you could possibly see things arranged by color. It is an especially attractive way to display items of like types. For example there may be a knickknack collection or vases or even glassware.

There are folks who collect ruby glass, that beautiful outstanding rich red colored glass from a variety of manufacturers. There are even reproduction pieces of this glassware and newer versions which do not pretend to be reproductions.

There are people who just collect milk glass. The creamy white colored glass made in many patterns such as the Depression glass is.

Folks collect blue and white dinnerware and serving pieces, sometimes in several different patterns.

I have seen variations of this idea such as just pastel pottery/ceramics such as Hull or Roseville, and Mc Coy. Here it is a more a range of colors not just one color.

Some are collecting to just have a certain color accent to add to their décor while others simply adore the item and want all examples of it possible.

You could use this same color idea in many other collectibles to just focus on a certain look. You could use this idea with porcelain dolls or quilts or vintage purses. The display potential is exciting and the same as collecting pottery or glass. A one color or two color impact is great when put together in enough quantity.

If you have ever gone into an antique or collectible shop where they arranged stuff by color, you can see what a handsome display it makes.

Sometimes, it is a way to develop a focus on your collection no matter what that may be. It is pretty easy to find Santa’s in red suits or black labs in black figurines, but what about angels?

Why not limit this portion of your collection to only collecting pink angels. It adds a bit more of a challenge to your collecting and makes it more interesting.

Suppose you wish to put a collection of bud vases in your dining room which is done in blue. If you only choose blue bud vases, the effect will be beautiful. Of course I’m talking about the main color here, not the entire colors on your vase because that could be too boring.

If you do want the collection to be in a certain color with no other color visible stick to different shades of that color. You could different shapes to add interest. This would work very well also if you choose different materials such as bisque, pottery, glass, ceramic, or resin. A collection of green dishes would really be something if you added the other elements.

Maybe a collection of porcelain dolls all dressed in a sunny yellow color would just suit your bedroom décor. Why not collect lavender bears to dress up your purple guest room.

It is simple to make a color scheme work, for years now many country collectors built a beautiful blue and white color scheme from using pottery or dishes in those combinations.

Get an idea and then go for it. Just be sure you like the color or combination enough to pursue this collecting idea for awhile.
